For many people, temporary night shifts would simply be a means to an end.

Matthew Crook at JD Sports sees this as an opportunity to progress and gain valuable experience in a completely new environment.

“The work through Assist has, without question, helped me with financial commitments. But just as important are the different positions I've been in within the company. My CV is definitely stronger and more appealing now for opportunities later in life.”

Working on night shifts at JD’s distribution centre in Kingsway for the last 12 months, Matthew has progressed from his first role as an order picker to become a team leader and then a supervisor.

“Maintaining good workflow to meet targets is the main objective. My work in team leader and supervisory roles has given me the chance to help and develop others.

“The thing I like the most about JD is the workforce. I have such a good relationship with all the team in all areas of the warehouse. The respect we share as a team makes my job even better.  All the success I have had at JD is thanks to them.”

We wish Matthew well for the future.
